In a rut
Have you ever felt as if one day was just like the one before it? You can walk through the day blindfolded. Your routine never varies. You know what you had for breakfast because you have the same meal every day. Your morning routine consists of the same tasks in the same sequence. You drive the same route to work each day. Sometimes you aren’t even aware of what you passed on the road. Lunch is at noon and dinner is at six. After dinner you dedicate yourself to two to three hours of couch time mindlessly tuning in to the same weekly programs. If this sounds familiar, then it is time to mix thing up. That begins from the time you wake up. Start with one simple change to your routine. Switch something like getting up on the opposite side of the bed. If it feels awkward, then it is working. If you have cereal for breakfast, change the brand you eat. Or put fresh fruit on it. Take time to sit and enjoy your meal rather than gulping it down while multitasking. Savor each mouthful of food and be grateful for what you have to eat. You get the picture. Don’t attempt to change all of your routine in a single day. Instead, choose one behavior that you will alter and consciously apply it for one week. Then add a new one the following week. Always be aware of how it feels to make the change. Before you know it, you are out of your rut. What is the first behavior you will change to get out of your rut?
