Jumping to conclusions
There are times when I am quick to make judgments about why people behaved toward me the way they did. These are the times that I position myself at the center of the universe (ok, it is MY universe) and make it all about me. I send an email or leave a phone message for someone to contact me on a matter of importance. They don't return the email or call and I make a judgment about the kind of business person they are. I wouldn't be contacting them if it wasn't worth my time. What I have to realize is that I have defined that level of importance which may not qualify as such by the other person. I have also learned that the other person was on vacation or had a high priority project that required complete focus and energy. Rather than ruminate over such events, I can release them and ask myself, "How important is it to have their response today?" I can just as easily attribute their response to having other tasks at hand and bless them in accomplishing those. What recent events have you created negative thoughts about and what can you do to change your conclusions?
