The sands of time

Date:

If you are familiar with an hourglass, you know that the grains of sand that mark the passage of time only fall in one direction. Each grain is analogous to a segment of time in our lives. Once it has passed through the neck of the hourglass it cannot be retrieved. Think of how precious each moment of your life is when imagined in this way. How are you choosing to spend those moments? Do you make the best use of your time or engage in activities that can squander those moments? Do you take time to learn a new skill, meditate, help others, or expand your mind? These will all help to make a difference in the world. Or do you use your time to stare at the television without having to engage with it or thinking of creative ways to avoid tasks that need to be completed? If you imagined each of the sands in the hourglass to be of two colors, white for growth and productivity and black for stagnation, which color would be predominant at the bottom of your glass? If you are not satisfied with what you see, what can you do to begin to change that with the next grain of sand that falls?
