Where's the passion?
It isn’t unusual to be asked, “What are you passionate about?” For some, the response comes automatically. “I’m passionate about creating art” or “I’m passionate about traveling to new places.” When people are engaged in these activities, time and space feel suspended. It is sometimes referred to as “being in the zone”. For others, the same question elicits blank stares. “I don’t feel passionate about anything.” They can’t identify any activity in their life that conjures up that zonelike feeling. Think about the energy that one expends when living that passion. There is excitement, joy, freedom, and fulfillment. Those are the benefits of what occurs when passion is present. Given that, you would think that everyone would be actively seeking their passion. Yet many in life proceed as if it is an illusion. I find it interesting that passion can also be associated with suffering as described in at least one major religious belief. One would hardly wish to pursue something that incurred pain. I prefer to focus on passion as a positive. It is as simple for me as having a passion for life, making sure that I live as fully as possible no matter what is happening around me. What is your passion and how are you living it today?
