You're never too old

You have most likely heard the saying, "You can never teach an old dog new tricks." The belief was that, as we age, our brains lose their plasticity and ability to retain information. We also become set in our ways and resist change. I disagree. My own life is proof of the opposite. At age 59 I completed a doctorate with a 4.0 GPA from a major university. I also married for the first time. At age 60 I opened my coaching practice as a private business enterprise. At age 61 I began posting daily blogs on my website. By age 63 I had reached my goal of visiting all seven continents. At age 65 I became a regular guest for a radio station focusing on career-related topics. At age 70 I began to deliver webinars. At age 71 I was ready to publish my first book on the psychological effects of being out of work. The point is that I continue moving forward doing what I love. Living a life of meaning is possible for each of us. The only thing that limits us is what we believe to be our limitations. While my accomplishments are unique to me, each of us contains the potential to contribute to our own growth and the betterment of the world around us. What messages do you give yourself about how your age affects you and what are you doing to learn new tricks?
